With so many videos and blogs out there like “Proper nail health tips” and “How to grow your strongest nails yet”, our expert nail team manager, Lily, put together a list of common nail myths and the truth behind these myths.
MYTH #1: Gel can ruin your nails
TRUTH: If applied properly and removed properly, gel does not damage the nails. Proper removal includes gently filing away the top layer of the gel, then soaking the nails until the gel is soft enough to easily peel off. If you feel more comfortable taking breaks from gel, that’s also great!
MYTH #2: Hand lotion is all you need to maintain nail health
FULL TRUTH: Hand lotion is only one step in the process for maintaining proper nail health. Not only will your fingernails benefit from daily cuticle oiling, but your manicures will last longer!
MYTH #3: Getting pedicures is only for special occasions
TRUTH: Getting regular pedicures is good for your overall foot health. Regular pedicures keep your nails trimmed and calluses filed so your feet don’t crack. Additionally, nail techs are trained to assess and recommend when it is time to see a podiatrist.
MYTH 4: You have to get polish when you are getting a manicure or pedicure
TRUTH: Nail polish is just a finishing touch that is purely for fun and is not required when getting manicures and pedicures. The most important part of a manicure or pedicure is the proper cutting of nails and attention to dry and cracked skin.
