Team Highlights – Carey, Maggie, and Shannon attend a color class in Detroit, Michigan!

The team at the Shawn Paul Salon are dedicated to continuous education and furthering their skills as stylists in an ever-changing industry with new techniques and trends becoming popular every day. Whether the management team is bringing educators to the salon for group classes or are arranging for team members to attend classes elsewhere, continuous education is a strong core value of the Shawn Paul Salon.

Most recently, owner, Vivian, set up a visit to Detroit for three of our hair stylists that expressed interest in furthering their skills in blonding to attend a professional development class with a focus on new highlighting techniques and tips.

Each of those stylists provided their favorite lessons from the class and what new skills they are excited to use.

Carey: “My biggest take away was being more intentional with why I’m placing foils and to really focus on what the client wants as opposed to following a specific highlight placement pattern.”

Maggie: “The host of the class, Jay, was very welcoming and professional. I enjoyed seeing the application of different techniques (balayage, baby lights, slices) to work with the existing blonde on a client. We also got a lot of tips on keeping pricing fair for both clients and stylists during this time of inflation and when to do a partial highlight vs full highlight.

Shannon: “One of my favorite things I learned in the class were the tips for applying foils around the hairline. He showed us a technique to get a really, really soft blend while still keeping it super bright and blonde in the front right around the hairline and not having any harsh foil lines or harsh highlights in the front that look wild.”
