Balayage is a technique used to achieve softer, more natural looking highlights in comparison to traditional foil highlights. Originating from the French term “to sweep”, Balayage is a freehand technique where the color is applied piece by piece. This particular technique is something that the stylists at Shawn Paul Salon are especially good at doing. This particular color technique provides beautifully natural results and is relatively low-maintenance. Due to the freehand application, touch-ups are not as needed and the regrowth looks more natural than other techniques. I spoke with our resident Balayage Queen, Megan, to get some insight into Balayage at Shawn Paul Salon. Here is what she said:
1. Balayage is a very low-maintenance trendy color. Most balayage clients get their hair touched up every 4 months to a year depending on hair type, color history, and their at home maintenance.
2. Balayage tends to be a more natural/healthier option than traditional highlights! The lifting of the hair trends to be gentler than having the hair process in foils.
3. There are many different types of balayage, which means there is many different techniques, so make sure you bring your stylist pictures during your color consultation! Saying you want a balayage without a photo is like telling your stylist you want your hair colored but don’t know what color.
4. Balayage is expensive up front but is actually a money saver in the end! As I said, most of my balayage clients come in every 4 months to a year for touch ups. So instead of spending $90.00 – $150.00 every 4-6 weeks on your highlight, you spend a little more for your first appointment and then you are not needing to keep up with it for months at a time.
