Recently, while hanging out at the Shawn Paul Salon in Cleveland Heights, I was given the chance to try out the Davines “Your Hair Assistant” product line. I used the Prep Shampoo and the Prep Rich Balm conditioner for, “thick and treated hair.” I have pretty stubborn, dry hair, and a lot of it, so changing up both these parts of my routine made me nervous. When a label claims a product is, “for all hair types” as this shampoo does, it can often be misleading. Those one-size-fits-all products tend not to work so well for MY hair type which requires all the moisture it can get in every product I use.
However, I have learned long ago that when Davines claims a product is for all hair types, they really mean it! My hair did not feel dried out after washing as it sometimes does with ordinary shampoos and conditioners. In fact, it felt very soft and healthy, and smelled amazing.
Both of these products contain glycerin, which is great for moisturizing hair. The Prep Rich Balm also contains Vitamin E, which works as an antioxidant in the hair, protecting against free radical damage. The Prep Rich Balm detangles the hair easily (which is always much appreciated) and I didn’t even have to use very much of it. Like I said, I have a LOT of hair, so I go through products fairly quickly. But, like with most Davines products, a little goes a very long way. I think for the first time in my life, I used a “quarter-sized amount” of product and I was actually able to wash and condition my hair without having to go back for more.
This is one reason why the extra money one pays for these products is SO worth it. The higher quality is not only better for producing fabulous hair, but the nutrient-rich formula means that you have to use less product to get the job done better than something you could pick up at the drugstore for $5 (Let’s be honest, we’ve all done it!)
The “Your Hair Assistant” line is formulated with the perfect blowout in mind, and the shampoo and conditioning balms are meant to prep the hair to be styled. Personally, I usually let my hair air dry, so styling protection is not something that I necessarily look for in a product. So am I going to make these products a new staple of my haircare routine? Probably not. Did I still really love using them? Absolutely! And I would 100% recommend this line to anyone who is looking for some new, reliable products, especially if they are a fan of regular heat styling.
