Hello Shawn Paul Salon Guests/Fawns/Friends!
We are so excited to be back to work, and as we continue to navigate salon life during the time of COVID-19, we wanted to explain how we are continuing to keep you safe. With numbers of positive cases continuing to rise, our team has made the decision to continue the current safety protocols. This means lots of cleaning and sanitizing for us, and for you all to plan on wearing your mask and having your temperature taken for all of your appointments through summer! This also means we are continuing our policing of not offering blow dries for the foreseeable future.
There are a few main reasons why, with the biggest one being that COVID-19 is so new, it is still not fully understood how much it is able to travel through the air. One article often cited says “a blow dryer does have the potential to spread contaminated air around a room” if it is being used on an infected person (“Do Blow Dryers Actually Spread Coronavirus?” http://www.prevention.com). That same article states that the “CDC says that ‘it is unknown how long the air inside a room occupied by someone with confirmed COVID-19 remains potentially infectious.’” While the virus is most commonly spread person to person, blow drying only appears to enhance the ability for it to spread from person to person who is across the room.
The CDC makes it clear that many people are contagious before they exhibit symptoms, and there are asymptomatic carriers. This, combined with the CDC recommendations that businesses who are open during the pandemic keep the humidity in the space at 40-60%, and maintain air circulation, has led us to the conclusion that it is in the best interest of everyone if we do not risk the possibility of spreading infection by blow drying. The Shawn Paul Salon family cares deeply about our guests, and we want you to feel safe coming in to our salon. Many of you have family members who fall in to the vulnerable population, or are caretakers for the elderly, or the immuno-compromised. Some of our guests are also members of vulnerable populations, and we want you to feel supported by the Shawn Paul Salon. While a blow out is a fantastic way to end a service, we always put our guests health and safety first and want everyone who walks through our doors to know we take COVID-19 very seriously, and would rather have you leave wet than risk exposing any of our guests and their loved ones to COVID-19.
We thank you all for your continued patience and understanding. Stay safe!
